“Man, Earth and Space”

On April 12, 2024, the rural library of Akan Kurmanov prepared an educational post “Man, Earth and Space” dedicated to Cosmonautics Day. Objectives of the event: To expand and deepen readers’ knowledge about human exploration of outer space; To instill in children a sense of pride in the exploits of space explorers and successes in the development of the space industry in our country.

On April 12, the world celebrates Cosmonautics Day, a memorable date dedicated to the first manned flight into space. This is a special day — a day of triumph for science and all those who work in the space industry today. On April 12, 1961, the Vostok-1 spacecraft launched from Kazakhstani soil with the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on board. The flight, which lasted only 108 minutes, was a powerful breakthrough in space exploration. The name of Yuri Gagarin became widely known in the world, and the first cosmonaut himself received the rank of major and the title of Hero of the Soviet Union ahead of schedule. The Baikonur Cosmodrome became the main harbor from where Soviet, and then Russian and foreign ships went into space.
Kazakhstanis can rightfully be proud of their astronautics heroes.
The first cosmonaut of Kazakh nationality, Toktar Aubakirov, flew in 1991 and spent 7 days 22 hours 13 minutes in space. Aubakirov is not only the number one cosmonaut, he was also one of the first to participate in an experiment in which he first tried freeze-dried dishes of Kazakh national cuisine, specially developed by scientists for feeding astronauts: ayran, irimshik and Kazakh meat.
Talgat Musabaev made three flights and spent 341 days 9 hours 48 minutes 41 seconds in space. Talgat Musabaev is included in the Guinness Book of Records: before him, no one had been in outer space for more than a day during one flight.
Kazakhstani cosmonaut Aidyn Ayimbetov is the first citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan to fly into space.
Aidyn Aimbetov spent in outer space from September 2 to 12, 2015 as a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA-18M spacecraft as part of the crew: Russian ship commander Sergei Volkov and Royal Danish astronaut Andres Mogensen.
