Abai-challenge

07/08/24 Abai-challenge is a poetry relay race, the participants of which read the works of the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayev.
The challenge is dedicated to the 179th anniversary of Abai’s birth, which will be celebrated in August 2024.
The founder of Kazakh written literature Abai Kunanbayev was born on August 10, 1845 in the territory of the current East Kazakhstan region. His real name is Ibrahim, Abai is a nickname given to him by his grandmother, it means «attentive». The most famous work of Abai was the prose poem «Kara soz» («Simple, black word»), known in Russian translation as «Words of edification». Abai is also known for his socio-political activities and cultural reformism. He advocated for the rapprochement of the cultures of Kazakhstan and Russia. During the event, poems, excerpts from the poem «Iskander», fragments from «Words of edification» were read. The performance of the poet’s famous song «Kozimnin karasy» united all those present. A book exhibition «The Word of Abai — the Wisdom of the People» was organized. The purpose of the event is to arouse respect and interest in the works of Abai, pride in the fact that this great man is our compatriot, to introduce his works, in which the poet calls for justice, honesty, decency.
