“Traditions and customs of the Kazakh people”

On June 13, 2024, the Garden Rural Library, as part of the special project “Revival of the customs and traditions of the Kazakh people,” prepared a history page “Traditions and customs of the Kazakh people.”
Goal: acquaintance with national Kazakh traditions and customs.
The video clip provides information about national customs and traditions.
The traditions and customs of the Kazakh people are an example of behavior, a standard of courtesy and respect.

Shashu is a ritual symbolizing prosperity, sweet life and abundance. Sweets, cookies, candies, and coins are thrown at guests, as if showering them with prosperity during big and important events. This could be matchmaking, a wedding, the birth of a child, cutting a baby’s bonds, and more.

Suyinshi is a custom according to which a person who brings good news to a house receives a valuable gift from the owners in gratitude.

Baygyzy is a monetary or material gift for a new item or certain achievements.

Bata is a national blessing that is expressed in best wishes and good wishes. Most often, this ritual is carried out during a festive dastarkhan, before an important event or a long departure. As a rule, blessings are given by older people who have seen a lot in their lifetime.

Shildekhana is a celebration dedicated to the birth of a child. Yesim koyu, at koyu, azan shakyru is a naming ceremony when a baby is given a name. The ritual is entrusted to the most respected elders, who, among other things, bless the baby.

Tasattyk — the ancient ritual tasattyk is still performed by residents of Kazakh villages. This is a sacrifice that is performed during drought to ask for rain.
