“Afghanistan – Memory and Pain”
On February 13, 2024, the Sochi Rural Library held a historical almanac “Afghanistan – Memory and Pain,” dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The purpose of the event is to acquaint readers with the reason for the entry of troops into Afghanistan, to determine the historical significance of the Afghan war, and to instill a sense of duty, responsibility, and patriotism. The librarian’s story about Afghanistan was accompanied by a video showing “Heroes of the Afghan War.” Readers learned about the reasons for the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan, about the joint military actions of Soviet troops and Afghan government troops, about the courage and bravery of Soviet soldiers, about the difficult conditions in which they had to fight and about the assistance provided by Soviet soldiers to local residents.
